Area Schools
Ouachita parish schools are ranked 3rd in the state of Louisiana. Our high school students have the option of attending three outstanding universities located within 30 miles of West Monroe; the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Louisiana Tech and Grambling. For our students desiring technical training, Louisiana Technical college is the leading institution for career options. In addition, Delta Community College offers a wide array of certifications and programs.

Recreation
Outdoor recreation is abundant in northern Louisiana parishes. There are miles of rivers and trails as well as Kisatchie Nat’l Forest to explore. Kisatchie is a true American treasure with 600,000 acres to enjoy. Here in north Louisiana you will experience rodeos, barbecues, crawfish boils and Mardi Gras parades. Go west on I-20 to experience the Red River in Shreveport/Bossier area. There you will find cultural events and a thriving night-life with casinos and world-class entertainment. Monroe boasts its own theater, symphony, art galleries and ballet companies. To our east you can see well-preserved Civil War battlefields and one the most important archaeological sites in North America, Native American earthworks called Poverty Point. The Ouachita River is the place to water and jet ski as well as dock a house boat. Restoration Park provides hiking paths, Kiroli Park nature strolls and picnic area.

What ever you’re in the mood for, the Monroe/West Monroe area has a large selection of restaurants to choose from. From five-star elegance to sitting at picnic tables peeling shrimp and crawfish, you can find it all here. Monroe is also home to Pecanland Mall. There are over 80 stores to shop along with 15 eateries and a 10 screen cinema.
